Ephemeral Stillness

Water never stops. Photographs offer a way to stop motion; even amid the roughest storm, a photograph can bring all movement to a halt. Long-exposure photography creates its version of stillness. Motion blur softens harsh waves, wind gusts fade into a gentle fog, and the sea state is muted. Fantastic shapes exist in the interplay between hard surfaces and moving water, none more so than rocks surrounded by water in motion.

These photographs were submitted as a project for my Master of Arts in Photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

All photographs were made using a Nikon Z7ii, NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S, Z 24-120mm f/4 S, Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 S Lenses, and Kase Revolution CPL, ND 8, 64, and 1000 filters.
